The Benefits Of Coating Your Bathroom

by on August 7, 2009

Bathroom coatings are not a new phenomenon as they have been around for many years. However, it is only recently that its true benefits are starting to be noticed. Much of the reasoning behind this is due to their improvement in performance transforming from varnish-like silicon products to today’s hydrophobic layers, engineered at molecular level. Applying coating to your bathroom will not only ensure that you are protected from lime scale, but also other particles.

One of the advantages to using coating, is that they prevent build up of lime or dirt and therefore does not require chemical cleaning products to keep the surfaces clean. Furthermore, most manufacturers actively advise against using chemical cleaners as they damage the surface.

Other bathroom surfaces are hydrophilic. This essentially means that lime and other deposits can sit in the microscopic hollows on the surface. Over a period of time these build up and create a corrosive process that causes damage at molecular level. This is why using coatings is more practical. The coatings have what you may call a ‘repellent-factor’. This keep lime, dirt and all sorts of other particles to build up.

What is the actual difference?

The statistics have reported that around 46 million every year is reckoned to be spent specifically on bathroom cleaners, plus another 117 million on liquid bleach and disinfectants and 14 million on limescale removers. These are huge figures, and there is no doubt that if even a proportion of this could be used instead on protective coatings in the bathroom – the impact on the environment will be significant.

The impact on the environment

By using protective coating in your bathroom, you will be able to cut down on your costs on chemical cleaning products. This will in turn help minimise the amount of harmful chemicals being released into the environment.

Therefore, using coating will not only have a positive impact on the environment, but it will also reduce your time spent in cleaning. Your household bills will also be reduced as you will not require as many cleaning products. Most household owners when making a new purchase rarely consider the impact their decision may make on the environment. However, with increasing awareness of the environment this view is now starting to change.

Most customers do not prioritise how environmentally friendly the product will be when they are deciding which one to go for. This is due to the fact that other factors such as price and appearance are fundamentally more important to the customer. However, if the manufacturer can somehow promote the eco-friendliness of the product without compromising on its price, then it may be possible to appeal to more customers.

It should be noted that customers will not be the only ones that will benefit from using coatings in their bathroom. There is also a corporate and social responsibility involved. If more businesses started using coatings in their bathrooms the impact on the environment will be huge.
