Make Your Own Soy Candles

Soy candles is also a lot cooler (50% in fact) that other candles. This makes it clean and burns longer. Another side benefit is it’s environmental friendly ingredient. This means it’s biodegradable. What’s the ingredient you ask? Well it’s made from soy beans of course! If you want to save the earth, try to use soy candles!

Many people are attracted to soy candles because of these benefits, but many soy candle lovers love to make their own candles because it’s easy to make and the materials are available freely. Proud owners love to display soy candles when there’s a visitor. It’s a good conversation piece too!

The first thing to do is to prepare your shopping list. You do not have to worry much of the materials you need to make the soy candles as they are available in almost every home. Primary on your list is a pound of soy wax and a mason jar.

If you prefer to make colored and scented candles, you need to add fragrance oil and candle coloring dye on your list. Clear glass canning jar is a popular material for candle making because of its resistance to heat and crack. In the early times, they are used as canning jars for jellies and jams.

Now, after you get all the materials required. It’s time to make your first soy candle! You might make a lot of mistakes the first time you do it, and frankly the more complicated you make this seems like the less fun you’re going to experience. I’m an advocate of keeping things simple. Here’s what I do. Melt the wax until it’s completely melted. No, you don’t need to watch the timer or the thermometer.

Now, you would want to watch your wax because you’d want to put in the fragrance oil and dye when it’s completely melted. Turn off the heat first though. Just stir the fragrance oil in it until it is fully absorbed into the wax. (you can use anything to stir it) Now, add in the candle dye.

Don’t add to much dye on the first go though. Just add a little, stir, and see the result. You don’t want to add too much but not too little too. It’s personal preference really.

Here’s the last and final step to your first soy candle. The idea here is to tie a wick on a small stick. Place it on the jar, straight. And then pour the wax into the jar. Wait for 48 hours for it to dry and voila you have your first soy candle. Congratulations.
